At least 21 golfers teed off yesterday afternoon at Kachere Golf Club, Kamuzu Academy, in Kasungu, for the MK2 million Wella Medical Aid Society (WEMAS) Golf Tournament. The event was organized for Kamuzu Academy staff, parents, and WEMAS clients as part of the school’s Founders Day celebration.
WEMAS Chief Operations Officer, Gift Nyahundi, emphasized the health benefits of golf, aligning the tournament with the organization’s commitment to wellness.
“Golf is a sport that promotes physical and mental well-being. By sponsoring this event, we are encouraging our clients to embrace healthier lifestyles while celebrating Kamuzu Academy’s rich legacy,” said Nyahundi.
The golfers competed for an array of prizes, including trophies, household appliances, cash awards, and special honors for Nearest to the Pin and Longest Drive.
The tournament provided a platform for friendly competition and an opportunity to strengthen bonds among the participants.
The event marked the conclusion of Kamuzu Academy’s Founders Day festivities, which celebrate the vision and achievements of the academy’s founder, the late Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda. The day serves as a reflection on the institution’s enduring impact on education in Malawi.
Participants praised the collaboration between Kamuzu Academy and WEMAS, expressing hope that such tournaments would become a regular feature to promote health and community engagement.
The tournament ended with a prize-giving ceremony, honoring the day’s top performers and bringing the Founders Day celebrations to a memorable close.
