Security agencies have been faulted for their silence, a week after the President’s directive to arrest perpetrators involved in recent political violence.
In two separate incidents, machete welding men who hid their faces with masks, were witnessed restricting peaceful protesters in the capital Lilongwe.
These scenes angered some section of society who demanded action from the police by arresting the alleged oppressors.
Following this President Lazarus Chakwera a week ago directed the Malawi Police Service to investigate and bring to book the suspects.
However, Lucky Mbewe a social commentator, said that the silence by the police on the directive is a sign of their deliberate negligence in addressing political violence.
On the other hand Peter Kalaya Spokesperson for Malawi Police requested for more time to respond on the matter.
