In a recent report, Mrs. Mary Chilima shared her testimony regarding the late Dr. Saulos Chilima’s final moments before his untimely passing. According to her account, Dr. Chilima informed her that he was departing from Kamuzu International Airport. However, he did not disclose whether he had safely arrived at his intended destination in Mzuzu.
Mrs. Chilima explained that, being occupied with her academic commitments on the day in question, she lost track of time and did not follow up with her husband. Later that day, she began watching a live-streamed funeral for Mr. Kasambara, during which she realized that her husband was absent. This prompted her to consider that he might have left abruptly to return, as he had previously informed her he would be making a quick trip.
However, her assumptions were shattered when government officials, along with family members, including Mrs. Valera, arrived at her residence to deliver devastating news. They informed her that the aircraft carrying the late Dr. Chilima had gone missing. The revelation left her in a state of shock and disbelief.
This tragic incident has left many Malawians reflecting on the profound loss of a prominent leader whose legacy will undoubtedly endure. The nation continues to mourn Dr. Chilima, who left an indelible mark on Malawi’s political and social landscape.
