The United Transformation Movement (UTM) party is not in attendance of the launch of the Saulos Klaus Chilima (SKC) Foundation, a ceremony aimed at promoting the legacy of the late Vice President Saulos Chilima.
UTM leader, Dr. Dalitso Kabambe, the party’s decision is rooted in its inability to reconcile with individuals who, in their view, were responsible for Chilima’s death.
Kabambe made these remarks during a press conference held at Area 49 in Lilongwe.
He said despite boycotting the launch, UTM has pledged to donate K10 million to the SKC Foundation.
“This move underscores the party’s commitment to honoring Chilima’s legacy, while also maintaining its distance from perceived adversaries.”
The launch ceremony is now taking place at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe and draws high-profile attendees, including President Lazarus Chakwera.
The party’s decision has elicited varied responses from the public, with some supporting UTM’s stance, while others view it as a missed opportunity for reconciliation and unity.
