The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has donated Information and Communication Technology (ICT) equipment valued at $108,000 (approximately K187 million) to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The donation is aimed at enhancing the DPP’s electronic case management system.
The equipment was officially received at the Ministry of Justice premises in Lilongwe.
Director of Public Prosecutions Masauko Chamkakala said the donation will greatly assist in improving the safety of case files, analysis and maintenance of data, and will contribute to faster and more efficient case handling.
Chamkakala noted that the request for the equipment was initially made to the UNDP in June 2024.
The donation comprises tablets, all-in-one computers, printers, servers, and other essential networking tools.
UNDP Acting Resident Representative Nanise Saune-Oaloewai emphasized the significant impact the donation will have on the DPP’s operations.
She reiterated Chamkakala’s sentiments, stating that the equipment will help streamline case management processes.
She added that the new ICT tools will improve the collection, storage, and analysis of data.
This, she said, will ensure a more efficient and effective justice system in Malawi.
