The Malawi Electoral Commission (Mec) will on Monday 14th July, 2025 launch the official campaign period which will run up to 14th September, 2025 throwing under the carpet opposition political parties concerns, as useless.
High on the opposition political parties’ concerns were the use of Smartmatic machines to transmit election figures from constituency tally centres to the main tally centre in Lilongwe and Mec to allow independent auditors verify the voters’ roll for the 16th September, 2025 elections.
Mec Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja and Chief Elections Officer Andrew Mpesi have defied all electoral stakeholders calls for peaceful elections for the concerns raised to be resolved amicably before the launch of official campaign period.
Millions of Malawians have already made their conclusion that the citizen will be going to the polls in an election already decided by Mec that the winner is President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera to continue running the country to 2030.
A concerned citizen of Malawi Mrs. Dorothy Namate of Kawale 2 in Lilongwe, has dedicated the Pastoral Letter which is being read in all CCAP Churches across the country to Mec Chairperson Annabel Mtalimanja and Andrew Mpesi.
Namate has asked the two to read Jeremian 29;7 to love the country, their houses and churches claiming that they are officially launching the campaign period with peoples’ hearts burning for not responding to their concerns.
She said Malawians are all aware that Mec will declare President Chakwera the winner contrary to there will reminding the two that Botswana’s President Advocate Duma Gideon Boko left Malawi after advising the Electoral body to be independent.
The woman said Mozambican Judge Cecilia Robello fled her country and is in exile for declaring Daniel Chapo the winner as President of the country contrary to the will of the people appealing to the church leaders of these two people to pray for them in a special way.
She said from 1964 Malawi has been a peaceful country and is enjoying peace to this day and this peace should not turn into blood on the 16th September, 2025 because the two at the helm of Mec are receiving orders from politicians of their party.
“If Mec was established with a mandate of conducting elections in a free, fair, transparent and credible manner, why not allowing independent auditors verify the voters’ roll? This alone, is a recipe for violence,” and Namate.
She has assured Mtalimanja and Mpesi that if independent auditors will not access the voters’ roll, the launching of official campaign period will be nothing, advising the two to just declare President Chakwera the winner than wasting resources to declare him the winner after the 116th September, 2025 elections because Malawians already knows Mec’s plan.
