FCB Nyasa Big Bullets Head Coach, Peter Mponda, says his side’s triumph in the 2025 Airtel Top 8 Cup is no surprise, describing it as a continuation of the club’s proud tradition of winning silverware in Malawi.
Speaking after his team edged out Silver Strikers 4-3 on penalties at Bingu National Stadium on Sunday — following a 1-1 draw in regulation time — Mponda praised his players for maintaining their competitive spirit in crucial matches.
Ephraim Kondowe sealed the victory for the “Mapale” with a decisive spot-kick, while Silver’s Levison Maganizo failed to convert his attempt in the tense shootout.
“This is not something extraordinary for Bullets. We won this trophy last year, and lifting it again just gives us another reason to celebrate,” said Mponda. “Defending the title for the third consecutive year, and winning it for the fourth time since 2017, boosts our confidence as we shift focus to other competitions.”
Silver Strikers’ Head Coach, Peter Mgangira, admitted his side fell to a strong opponent but said the defeat would only strengthen their resolve in upcoming tournaments.
“We lost to a good team, well-managed by a capable coach,” Mgangira said. “This gives us the drive to work harder.”
The Airtel Top 8 final lived up to its billing, with both sides giving fans an entertaining showdown — yet again underlining the fierce rivalry between Malawi’s football giants.
