Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, has officially named Dr. Jane Ansah as his running mate for the upcoming September 16, 2025, general elections.

The announcement was made shortly after Mutharika successfully presented his presidential nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

Dr. Jane Ansah, a respected legal scholar and former chairperson of the Malawi Electoral Commission, brings with her a wealth of experience in governance and public administration.

Mutharika’s decision to pick Ansah is seen by political analysts as a strategic move aimed at reinforcing the DPP’s commitment to constitutionalism and rule of law.

The pairing of Mutharika and Ansah signals a return of familiar faces to the political spotlight, both having played key roles in previous electoral cycles.

Supporters of the party welcomed the decision, citing Dr. Ansah’s credentials, integrity, and proven leadership as assets to the DPP ticket.

During the unveiling, Mutharika expressed confidence in Ansah’s capabilities, saying she shares his vision for a better Malawi.

He described her as a “dedicated patriot” who has consistently demonstrated professionalism and a deep understanding of national issues.

Dr. Ansah also addressed the gathering, stating that she is humbled by the trust placed in her and is ready to serve the nation with honesty and dedication.

She emphasized that the DPP is entering the election not only to win but to rebuild Malawi’s institutions, economy, and global standing.
