Kamphangala describes the dissolved 2019-2025 Parliament, the worst

By Vincent Gunde

A voice of the voiceless citizen of Malawi Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has described the 2019-2025 dissolved Parliament as the worst in the history of the country that both government and opposition members had their heads bent on allowances and not the future of the country.

Kamphangala said for the first time in the history of Parliament, a woman was elected Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani-Hara but judging by her performance, she was the worst as compared to men who have occupied the same position before.

He said for the first time, Leader of opposition in Parliament Dr. Kondwani Nankhumwa allowed dubious bills passing through his eyes to become a law, he was a double-standard, one leg to the government and the other leg to the opposition.

The citizen said both government and opposition MPs agreed to extend the period of their stay in office without consulting the citizens through a referendum or opinion polls and this led them to set the election date to 16th September, 2025 from 21st May, 2024.

He has claimed that the 2019-2025 Parliament was above the Republican constitution which says elections must be held in every after five years but these MPs have served for 5 full years and 2 months in office.

Kamphangala said if this Parliament was under the law, the country could have gone into the elections on the 21st May, 2024 to elect the President, MPs and councilors but because of greed, they invested powers in themselves to twist the laws to favor themselves.

Kamphangala said if Malawi was a country of laws, from 21st May, 2024 there could have been no President and Parliament speaking to itself that Malawi had an illegal President and Parliament to the day, Parliament has been dissolved.

He said if Malawi was a country of laws, from 21st May, 2024 the country could have been run by an interim or caretaker government to oversee the elections but this has not been made because Malawians were born to be always law-abiding citizens.

The citizen has claimed that the four cornerstones which were founded by Kamuzu Banda of Unity, Loyalty, Obedience and Discipline have destroyed the country observing that the way Parliament was being run in Malawi, if this was in other countries, the citizens could have dissolved it.

“Politicians in Malawi are taking advantage over the quietness of the citizens surrounded by the four cornerstones founded by Kamuzu Banda,” said Kamphanagala.

He has called for a complete overhaul of the Republican Constitution for a new one, saying the current constitution has so many loop holes demanding a review, amendment and revisiting for it to go factory setting.

Kamphangala has finally called on church leaders and organizations, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), opposition political parties and Malawians in general, to champion constitutional amendment conference soon after the winning 16th September, 2025 elections president has been sworn-in.
