Chiradzulu, Malawi — Thumbwe Constituency Member of Parliament Joseph Mwanamveka has called on fellow legislators from Chiradzulu District to work together to improve key public institutions, particularly Chiradzulu District Hospital and Chiradzulu Secondary School.
Mwanamveka made the call during a ceremony in Masanjala Constituency where fellow legislator Tonny Fletcher officially launched the Masanjala Constituency Football League and handed over an ambulance to the constituency.
Mwanamveka said MPs from the district should put aside their differences and join hands in addressing challenges affecting communities across Chiradzulu.
He identified the improvement of Chiradzulu District Hospital and Chiradzulu Secondary School as among the key areas requiring collective attention to improve access to quality health and education services.
The call comes as constituencies across the district continue implementing various community development initiatives aimed at improving essential public services.
Meanwhile, Fletcher said the newly launched Masanjala Constituency Football League, which has a budget of K10 million, will be held annually until 2030.
According to Fletcher, the tournament is intended to provide young people with an opportunity to participate in organised sporting activities while promoting community engagement.
Fletcher also expressed hope that the newly provided ambulance would help address transportation challenges faced by patients, particularly those who need to be referred to Chiradzulu District Hospital for further treatment.
The ambulance is expected to strengthen emergency and referral services in Masanjala and ease the burden on patients who previously faced difficulties accessing reliable transportation when seeking specialised medical attention.
The two initiatives highlight efforts by constituency representatives to support community development through investments in health, education and youth development.
Mwanamveka’s appeal for MPs to work together also places emphasis on collective action among elected representatives in addressing district-wide challenges that may extend beyond the boundaries of individual constituencies.
