Independent candidate for the Mlodza Constituency parliamentary seat in Lilongwe City, Langtone Mose, has raised concerns over the credibility of the 2025 Malawi General Elections results released so far. The unofficial tally shows that Ulemu Msungama of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) is currently in the lead.

Mose Cites Discrepancies in Election Results

Speaking after the announcement of the provisional results, Mose said there were discrepancies between the results he obtained from his polling monitors and those published by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

Mutharika says 16th September, is a choice between two options

He specifically mentioned Chifuniro School polling station, where the figures allegedly do not align with the number of registered voters. According to him, the outcome raises serious questions about the credibility of the vote count.

“We have already lodged a complaint with MEC and are waiting to see how they will handle it. But if they fail, we will take the matter to court,” said Mose.

Current Standings in Mlodza Constituency

A total of seven candidates contested for the Mlodza parliamentary seat. The unofficial results show:

Ulemu Msungama (MCP): 6,911 votes

Langtone Mose (Independent): 5,017 votes

The MCP candidate’s lead has sparked tension, with Mose insisting that transparency and fairness must prevail.

Next Steps for Disputed Election Results

With the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) still processing complaints and verifying results, Mose’s challenge could become one of the key test cases for the election dispute resolution process. His decision to consider legal action reflects the growing demand for electoral accountability in Malawi.

As Malawians await the official declaration of results, all eyes remain on MEC and the courts to determine whether the concerns raised will alter the outcome in Mlodza Constituency.
