In a dramatic turn of events, Malawi Congress Party (MCP) parliamentarian for Lilongwe Mpenu constituency Eisenhower Mkaka, has joined calls for fresh inquiry on circumstances surrounding the tragic death of Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima and eight others, in the Chikangawa forest on the 10th June, 2024.

Mkaka said he is not happy because the DPP has been using the death of Dr. Chilima in its campaign trails to woo voters vote for the party on the 16th September, 2025 elections and is still advocating for the same till today.

Speaking in Parliament, Mkaka said there have been three reports on the circumstances surrounding Dr. Chilima’s death and none proved the MCP guilty saying because the DPP promised to bring justice on the matter, he expects fresh investigations to be conducted for Malawians to know the truth.

The calls for justice to be seen on Dr. Saulosi Chilima’s tragic death was introduced into the August House by UTM leader in Parliament Dr. Patriia Kaliati who did not miss words that it pained her to see death of prominent people going without credible investigations.

Dr. Kaliati said Dr. Saulosi Chilima was a prominent figure in the Malawi politics finding it strange that his tragic death brought silence to the entire nation with millions of questions raised without answers and even president Dr. Lazarus Chakwera himself had no answers to Malawians.

Kaliati accuses Chakwera government of undermining Saulos Chilima’s vision

President Chakwera instituted a commission of inquiry comprised of his friends and relatives who swore to bring justice on their report but there was nothing new except covering the appointing authority to be proved as innocence.

Speaking to one of the local radio station, Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs Charles Mhango, said his office will submit recommendations to President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika within 6 days after receiving 3 reports from the office of the Solicitor General.

“I have taken the President’s directive seriously and I have already begun acting on it for justice to be seen on the matter at hand,” Said Mhango as quoted in the media.

On his part, Blantyre Soche- Zingwangwa constituency legislator Pemjani Kalua, expressed hope that a new commission of inquiry to establish the truth on Dr. Chilima’s death would bring closure of the case and clear out some individuals who have been unfairly suspected to have taken a hand.

A Malawi Congress Party (MCP) diehard of Mvera in Dowa district Mr. Rodgers Kamphangala, has proposed to President Professor Mutharika that the yet commission of inquiry to be instituted should include; Hon. Kamlepo Kalua, Hon. Yeremia Chihana, Comrade Lytone Mangochi, Comrade Bon Kalindo, Pastor Moses Shumba, Bishop Kachenje, and journalists Burnett Mhango, Jones Gadama and Suleman Chitera.

Kamphangala has finally assured President Professor Mutharika that these genuine activists and journalists will bring the case of Dr. Saulosi Chilima to the closure and the truth will prevail expressing confidence that Mutharika being a listening President would bring these proposed names on board.
