History has been proved to be the best teacher, Malawi Congress Party’s (MCP) past history passed from generations to another has been proved that the party has never won any elections since the dawn of multiparty politics and democracy in Malawi in 1994.

History of the MCP Is dead within and outside the country, many people associate the MCP as a party of death, a party of committing atrocities one after another, and there is no way the MCP can learn and correct from its past mistakes.

If the MCP had an opportunity of entering into government in June, 2020 is because of the electoral alliance with the UTM- a political party which has a clean history and enjoyed support within and outside Malawi and more specially, the MCP should be thankful of the late Dr. Saulosi Klaus Chilima.

After the demise of Dr. Chilima, the MCP failed to rewrite its bad history through man of God who was an ordained Priest Dr. Lazarus Chakwera where Malawians saw the resurfacing of the notorious Malawi Young Pioneers (MYP) branded with a new name “MCP panga wielding thugs”.

MCP has also been proved to be a party whose leaders do not see the future, servant leadership to them meant enriching themselves at the expense of the poor people in Malawi and this was evidenced with skyrocketing prices of the staple food- maize at nobody’s care.

Majority of the MCP family and supporters do not see any future of the MCP that one day they could win the elections and possibly bounce back into government, people have lost hope and are giving the party no chance to get into government anymore.

The MCP will find it hard to go into electoral alliance with existing political parties that have a good history as they will also be afraid of their supporters accusing them of uniting with the party which has no good history of the country.

Some other people in the MCP wanted the MCP to hold an emergency convention to be held by the end of November, 2025 to reflect on how the party lost the 16th September, 2025 elections for the way forward but this has not been made possible proving itself that MCP is now a divided political party.

MCP diehards have now mobilized themselves to rebrand the MCP into a new political party carrying the name- the New Liberation Party (NLP), all this has been made because the MCP has reached an expiry date for new people with new ideas to take over the party under a new name.

Speaking through a video clip, NLPs Acting Publicity Secretary Isaiah Emmanuel Sunganimoyo (Mbewe wa Dzalanyama), has claimed that majority of the NLP members are those of the MCP diehards saying these people cannot join existing political parties but that with a new name.

Sunganimoyo said the MCP was founded by Orton Edgar Ching’oli Chirwa and because he had no resources to run the party, he invited Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda from Ghana to come back home to lead the party saying this is the same with the New Liberation Party (NLP).

He said the rebranded MCP to New Liberation Party (NLP) has started its preparations for the 2030 general elections expressing hope that those with good leadership qualities will join them assuring all that MCP has poison which is contrary to democracy.

“MCP is now dead and buried, it has reached an expiry date with no more resurrection to win future elections,” said Sunganimoyo.
