The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Malawi is facing mounting pressure to take immediate action on allegations of corruption and abuse of office involving Mr. Chithyola.

In a strongly worded letter, concerned citizen and whistleblower Edward Kambanje, expressed deep disappointment and frustration with the ACB’s lack of progress in the case.

According to the letter, dated 24 February 2026, the ACB has failed to update the status of the investigation into Mr. Chithyola despite serious allegations being made against him.

The allegations, which were officially reported and delivered to the ACB by hand on 23 May 2024 and 30 May 2024, have been met with silence from the anti-graft body.

Mr. Chithyola has not been called in for questioning, and the ACB has not provided any updates on the investigation’s status.

“The ACB’s mandate is clear: to investigate and prevent corruption, and to prosecute those involved in corrupt activities,” Kambanje wrote. “I implore you to uphold this mandate and demonstrate your commitment to fighting corruption.”

The letter, which has been copied to various stakeholders, including the media, demands that the ACB provide an update on the status of the investigation and confirm whether Mr. Chithyola has been contacted for questioning.

Kambanje has given the ACB 14 days to respond with details of intended actions to address the allegations.

“The lack of action in this case raises serious concerns about the ACB’s effectiveness in tackling corruption,” Kambanje stated, adding that , “The people of Malawi deserve better. I urge the ACB to take this matter seriously and take concrete steps to address the allegations.”

The ACB’s response to this ultimatum is eagerly awaited, as it will be seen as a test of the institution’s commitment to fighting corruption and upholding the rule of law in Malawi.

The Chithyola case has sparked widespread concern among Malawians, who are demanding transparency and accountability from their leaders.

As the clock ticks away, Kambanje and his group, The Citizen Voice mw, are urging fellow citizens to join the call for action, emphasizing that the fight against corruption requires collective effort and vigilance.

“The people of Malawi demand transparency and accountability, and it is the duty of the ACB to deliver,” Kambanje reiterated.
