Bravehearts Youth win 4 out of 5 games in Chipata

Head Coach for Bravehearts Youth, Griffin Kalua has hailed the team for demonstrating resilience and professionalism after picking up four wins in Chipata, Zambia where they played friendly games on Saturday and Sunday.

Speaking to Malawi News Agency (MANA) on Monday, Kalua said winning 4 out of 5 games in the team’s first international trip is an indication that they are heading in the right direction.

“The trip was 90 percent successful. These are 15-17-year-old boys who are coming up through our development program and to play senior teams in Chipata and register wins is a good thing.

“We lost to Sonics because it is a mature team that plays in the Zambian Basketball League. You may recall that the team, recently, played with Malawi national team and other teams in Lilongwe. Of course our boys were also tired after playing 5 games in two consecutive days,” he said.

Kalua praised Vincent Masiyano and Joshua Nsungama for outstanding efforts as well as the team’s coordinal efforts displayed on and off the court.

General Secretary for Basketball Association of Malawi (BASMAL), Peter Gomani commended Bravehearts for their active role in promoting youth basketball in the country.

On Saturday June 17, 2023, Bravehearts beat Lundazi Plantinumz 63-30, then defeated Katete Bucks 56-34 and registered victory over Ultimate Raptors 47-44. On Sunday Bravehearts overcame Raptors in a second game, 39-35 and endured a loss to Sonics 39-33.
