The royal family of late Traditional Authority Kapondo of Mchinji district has accused some public officers in the Local Government Ministry of being too corrupt.

Its representative, Timothy Sankhulani claimed that the chief, real name Wickson Thebulo, was promoted to the Senior Chief role in 2019 but died as mere TA. We couldn’t independently verify this.

He was speaking during the burial of the chief yesterday. Kapondo died at Kamuzu Central Hospital after succumbing to high blood pressure and stroke last Saturday.

“Some notorious and selfish civil servants deliberately chose to destroy the necessary documents after receiving bribes from well to do families,” alleged Sankhulani.

Meanwhile, Director of Chiefs in the line ministry, Charles Makanga, has called on the royal family to amicably resolve prevailing differences before choosing late Thebulo’s successor.

He said such raised concerns happen whenever misunderstandings arise over chieftaincy.

Mwada Lapuken Sirasi has since been chosen as the next Traditional Authority Kapondo.

Born on 11 th August 1952, late Kapondo was elevated to the position in 2002.
