Malawi Police Service (MPS) investigate the death of a suspected thief murdered at MUBAS

Malawi Police Service (MPS) is investigating the death of a suspected thief who was allegedly murdered-mob-justice style- by suspected Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) students yesterday afternoon.

MPS Deputy Public Relations Officer, Inspector Harry Namwaza, alleges in a statement that “…some MUBAS students dragged the unknown suspect into their campus while heavily assaulting him over accusation that he wanted to pickpocket one of the students.”

Namwaza said the students stoned police officers who wanted to rescue the suspect.

“It is further alleged that after assaulting the unknown suspect, the students set his body on fire before police moved in to collect the body,” reads the statement.
