Moyale Barracks Sisters football club secured their first victory in the NBM Women Premier League, defeating city rivals MK Academy 4-1 in a thrilling match played on Saturday.
The Malawi Defence Force’s 3rd Battalion team dominated the game, capitalizing on MK Academy’s defensive lapses.
Maurine Phiri’s spirited performance, assisted by Shupie Gondwe, proved decisive. Phiri scored a hat-trick, while Gondwe converted one goal, frustrating MK Academy, who remain second-bottom of the league without a win.

“We have embarked on a new plan aimed at ensuring our survival in the national league,” said Moyale coach John Chimwala, hailing his team’s resounding victory. “We are still learning from other well-established sides.”
MK Academy’s stand-in coach, Davie Sibande, expressed frustration over the painful defeat.
“I didn’t see that coming… we made several blunders at the back that have rendered costly in our fight for honours and survival,” he lamented.
Northern region teams are struggling in the inaugural NBM Women Premier League, with MK Academy stuck at the bottom half of the table and Topic Academy anchoring the bottom.
