Former President and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) leader, Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, has declared that he will not be intimidated by acts of political violence allegedly being orchestrated by members of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Speaking during a press conference, Mutharika accused the ruling party of using intimidation tactics in an attempt to silence opposition voices and discourage political participation.
He firmly stated that such threats will not deter him from fulfilling what he described as his important mission to rescue Malawians from the hardships they are currently facing.
Mutharika emphasized that the struggle to restore the country is not about personal power, but about delivering Malawians from the economic and social crises they continue to endure under the current administration.
He further stressed that Malawi is a nation that belongs to every citizen—not to President Lazarus Chakwera or Homeland Security Minister Richard Chimwendo Banda alone.
Mutharika’s remarks come at a time when political tension is rising ahead of the upcoming elections, with growing concerns over political freedoms and the rule of law.
