New Mobile Service Provider Company Malcel Rolls Out

This is the country’s sixth mobile operator after TNM and Airtel among others. MACRA has given three licences to MALCEL to operate individual network services, individual facilities and individual application services.

The development means MALCEL will now be able to operate a mobile telephone and operate towers among others.

Minister of Information and Digitisation, Gospel Kazako, in his remarks said the development will increase competition and effective communication.

Kazako urged mobile operators to reach out to rural communities with their services.

“MACRA has also given administration and management of the country’s code top-level domain to SDNP.

“This means Malawians will start using its digital identity of .mw.

Both companies are fully Malawian owned and over K1 billion has been invested.
