Mzuzu, Malawi: Mzuzu City North independent parliamentary aspirant, Leonard Njikho, has stressed the need to take care of furniture in educational institutions to ensure a conducive learning environment.
Njikho made these remarks on Saturday while fulfilling his pledge to donate chairs to Zolozolo Community Day Secondary School (CDSS).
According to Njikho, vandalism of school property has significantly contributed to the decline in education standards, resulting in poor examination results.
He urged learners to exercise discipline and take care of the donated chairs, which will help alleviate the shortage of furniture and reduce delays in starting classes.
“Driven by a sense of responsibility, I followed through on my commitment to provide chairs to the CDSS. I’m heartened by the students’ union’s promise to ensure the chairs will be well taken care of.” said Njikho.
He also reminded eligible voters to exercise their democratic right in the upcoming general elections, emphasizing the importance of shaping the country’s future.
The chairperson of the student’s council, Alinafe Banda, and the chairperson of the Board of governors, MacKelvin Rogers Chunda, applauded Njikho’s timely assistance, highlighting the challenges faced by the school in providing quality education due to inadequate resources.
“We launched a fundraising initiative early last year to address the acute shortage of chairs at our school, which has a student population of over 1,000,” said Chunda.
Zolozolo CDSS is one of the public institutions in Mzuzu City struggling to provide quality education, as outlined in Malawi Agenda 2063 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
