Organisation Donates Chlorine To Ndirande Residents

A call has gone out to authorities and the general public to enhance collaborative efforts in the fight against the Cholera outbreak, currently spreading at an alarming rate.

A local non-governmental organization called Chimbota Community Development Organization made the call yesterday when it made a donation of Chlorine to Mwayi Orphan Care Center, which looks after 150 children in Ndirande Township-Blantyre.

The organization’s director, Kevin Troughton saif if the community members were equipped with necessary resources like chlorine and knowledge on hygiene, the curbing of the pandemic would be easy.

“We have seen that there seems to be few number of people set up to fight against cholera. Everywhere we go people are complaining like nobody is coming with anything so we thought of starting with the little we have,” he said.

In his remarks, director for Mwayi Orphan Care, Farao Lampi appreciated the gesture but appealed for more support in these hard times.

“We are trying our best to keep the place hygienic and the children’s hygiene as well but still we need a hand in what we do,” Lampi said.

Apart from Mwayi Orphan Care, the Organization has also reached out to people with the chlorine in other townships like Machinjiri.

It also aims at also reaching out to people in Bangwe and Chirimba among other areas. Some teachers at St Andrews High School are partners in the chlorine distribution initiative.

As of Monday this week, the country had recorded cumulative 21 522 Cholera cases with 716 deaths.
