Procurement Of New ESCOM Transformers To Delay

Procurement of new ESCOM transformers is set to delay owing to what the corporation cites as global logistical bottlenecks.

Currently, ESCOM requires 350 transformers to restore power to 20 thousand establishments across the country.

In a statement, the power supplier is expressing concern with the increasing level of vandalism on its key transmission equipment such as the transformers.

The firm has been losing millions of kwachas in efforts to restore such vandalized materials as well as illegal connections.

However, despite the urgent need to replace the vandalized transformers shipment of new equipment may take months to reach the country.

On average, the power supplier loses five transformers every week due to vandalism.
