Rubber Bullets Frustrate Wandering Nomads

By Romeo Umali

Mark Harrison’s charges must be hitting their chest hard having failed to win city bragging rights after leaving their sworn rivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets chasing their own shadows for the better part of the barren Blantyre derby that lived up to its anticipated billing at the Kamuzu Stadium on Saturday.

The Nomads displayed class, dominance and cohesion throughout the game but lacked fire power and clinical finishing prowess despite creating a multitude of scoring opportunities.

Bullets mentor, Calisto Pasuwa didn’t have the magic wand he is known for as his troops failed to click especially in midfield; dumping his strikers Lanjesi Nkhoma, Hassan Kajoke and Anthony Mfune into a lazy portal of spectators.

But it was Wanderers wonderboy, Wisdom Mpinganjira who tormented Bullets from the right flank as he mostly enjoyed possession with ease.

He made brilliant runs, dribbles and dangerous volleyed crosses in the danger zone; thanks to the People’s Team goalkeeper, Clever Nkungula who made clever decisions to leave his comfort zone to clear such deadly balls.

No wonder, Mpinganjira won the Man of the Match accolade in a game which attracted huge patronage from both sides despite Super League of Malawi raising the open stand charges from K2000 to K3000.

Harrison, who recently faced the wrath of Nomads supporters, was blunt enough; saying his side dominated the game but lacked the finishing power.

“If we are to mount a serious challenge for the championship, we must maintain this level of play week in and week out,” he said Harrison.

On the other hand, Pasuwa, acknowledged his team’s shortcomings in terms of coordination.

“Wanderers outplayed us. Our hesitancy disrupted our rhythm and hindered our buildup,” admitted Pasuwa while faulting injuries in his squad too.

The result leaves Bullets on second position with 22 points while Wanderers remain third with 19 points.

In other matches, giant killers Chitipa United frustrated Silver Strikers wish of creating a five point gap against Bullets following another barren draw at the Civo Stadium.

Red Lions and Karonga battled it out in a one-all-draw game.
