Support charity programmes, Chilima urges

Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima has urged the public to embrace the spirit of supporting charity programmes that aim at sourcing funds for implementation of human and community transformation projects in the country.

He made the remarks Saturday when he presided over Rotary Club of Lilongwe Annual Charity Golf Tournament held at Lilongwe Golf Club.

Chilima said the public should always make positive response in various charity initiatives.

He thanked the teams of golfers which participated in the tournament for sparing their time to make the event possible.

The Vice President, who sponsored two teams in the charity golf tournament, also appreciated all the companies and individuals who sponsored the charity tournament for sacrificing their resources towards the cause.

Rotary Club of Lilongwe President, Margaret Sikwese applauded the tournament saying it was a success as they managed to raise K14.5 million .

She further said that, the money raised will be used in the implementation of two healthcare projects namely; a dental camp at Kamuzu Central Hospital where the Rotary Club of Lilongwe support people from rural and peri-urban areas of Lilongwe who cannot afford to pay for dental services, and the Bwaila Fistula Centre at Bwaila Hospital in Lilongwe to support women with corrective surgery.

Sikwese said as a club they are in need of K20 million to successfully implement the two projects, therefore, appealed for support from the public to top up the K14.5 million which has been raised through the charity golf tournament.
