Newly appointed Minister of Homeland Security, Ken Zikhale Ng'oma has said his main task is to bring back public trust and stamp out corruption among the police and other ministerial departments. The minister said this on Tuesday when he conducted a fimiliarizatiin meeting with department heads under his ministry at National Police Headquarters in Lilongwe. A dark cloud has engulfed Area 30 in Lilongwe, sending Constables, Corporals, Inspectors in a sombre mood following the sudden death of Detective Buba, a police dog who nailed one of the most sosphicated Chinese nertworks of Lin Huang that was responsible for plundering Malawi of it's precious wildlife. Detective Buba, the holder of a diploma in detective work nailed the Chinese syndicates after he sniffed articles of ivory at the house of Lin Huang. The Malawi Police Service (MPS) has called on road users to adhere to road safety rules and regulations in order to avoid road accidents. The Director for Traffic Police in the Service, Mrs. Dorophy Kawale, DCP, made the call in an interview with MBC-TV in 'Malamulo Akutinji' programme. Kawale stressed that it is every road user's responsibility to observe the rules and regulations when using the road. "Traffic officers are there to enforce traffic rules and regulations, but every road user must mind own safety and safety of the other road user," said Kawale. She has therefore challenged traffic officers to impose on-spot fines to road users who neglect traffic rules according to the law.

Deputy National Police spokesperson, Harry Namwaza has told Rainbow Online that this is part of their on-going investigations on the matter. He says they will update the nation on their findings once their investigations are over. High Court Judge Zione Ntaba has declared unlawful sweeping exercises conducted by the police. It follows a judicial review case in which three people were challenging the constitutionality of the sweeping exercise and mass arrests conducted by the police. At the time of their arrest, Banda was working as a DJ at a local bar, Mwale was having a drink at a club, and Supiyani was selling fish at a bar. Government has requested the South African government to arrest and extradite a Malawian based in that country known as Ben Longwe. Director of Public Prosecution, Steven Kayuni and Police Publicist, Harry Namwaza, have confirmed the development. The government's request follows a warrant of arrest that was obtained by law enforcement agencies for cyber-related offences and threats against judicial officers and legal practitioners in Malawi. Of late cyber-related crimes have been prosecuted in Malawian Courts in a bid to deter threats, character assassination and peddling of lies on social media.
