By Noel Mkwaila-BLANTYRE A Malawian citizen and rights activist, Fryson Chodzi has written Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority-MACRA to suspend two radio stations, MBC Radio 1 and Zodiak from broadcasting live the proceedings of a homosexuality court case. Chodzi argues broadcasting such case is leading to violation of children's rights, cultural values and religious beliefs. "As a representative of majority, I feel compelled to voice out my concerns on behalf of those who find such discussions inappropriate and against our norms," reads a letter to MACRA's Director General, Daud Suleman. Chiradzulu District Council says in collaboration with chiefs it has identified a new area in which survivors of Cyclone Freddy from Mtauchira Village will be resettled as a safety measure. Mtauchira Village which is on the foot of a hill in the area of Traditional Authority Likoswe was among the hardest hit by Cyclone Freddy as the entire village was buried by the mudslide killing 16 people in the process while the other ten are still missing. District Commissioner for Chiradzulu, Francis Matewere, made the remarks when Malawi Broadcasting Corporation employees visited Lisawo Evacuation Camp to donate relief items. MBC’s Director-General, George Kasakula, said the public broadcaster acquired the 2023 AFCON qualifiers' rights last year. “I can assure all Malawians that they will be watching the Flames wherever they go including the one they will play against Guinea this coming Thursday. The Malawi Broadcasting Corporation MBC has compensated the family of Blessings Nyondo who was shot by the corporation’s guard. Nyondo was shot on the night of December 31 by an alleged MBC Guard around Njamba freedom park area and died 7 days later after he was hospitalized at Queen Elizabeth Central Hospital. It was said that the guard had suspicions that he was a thief. However, the family insisted that the deceased was on his way to a religious crossover service.
