United States President Donald Trump has praised Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for what he describes as significant progress in the country’s economy during his first year in office, while urging Malawians to support the government as it works to strengthen the economy and improve food security.
In a letter to President Mutharika, Trump commended the Malawi leader for what he said was his ability to begin changing the country’s economic situation within a relatively short period after taking office.
The message comes as Mutharika marks one year in office, providing a significant boost to his administration as it continues to deal with economic challenges facing households and businesses across Malawi.
Mutharika returned to the presidency at a time when Malawi was facing serious economic difficulties, including fuel shortages, limited fuel reserves and rising pressure on the cost of living.
