World Vision International (WVI) has handed over sanitary and medical equipment to the Presidential Taskforce on Cholera and Covid-19.
The items which are worth about K90 million include chlorine, drip stands, tapped water buckets and liquid soap.
Speaking after handing over the donation in Blantyre, WVI’s National Director, Francis Dube, said the donation has been made as a way of heeding President Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s call for support in the fight against cholera.
After receiving the materials, Minister of Health, Khumbidze Kandodo Chiponda who is also the Co-Chairperson of the Presidential Taskforce on Cholera and Covid- 19 described the move as well thought and will help a great deal in fighting the outbreak.
“This donation is timely, the situation on the ground is dire for example we have lost 11 school-going children due to cholera,” stressed Chiponda.
Cumulatively as of Wednesday this week, the country had about 30 thousand cholera cases and 1000 deaths.
