Some section of DPP legislators has disapproved the election of George Chaponda as leader of opposition in parliament.
Besides, this bloc has also predicted “chaos” ahead of the next seating of parliament saying, they will continue to rally behind Kondwani Nankhumwa, who remains their “legitimate leader of opposition in Parliament”.
Chaponda has according to the party’s resolution replaced Nankhumwa.
However, Mulanje West MP, Yusuf Nthenda has told MIJ Online the meeting was null-and-void as it left out many MPs of the party.
He said: “You should expect chaos within the DPP because I cannot be led by Chaponda in Parliament. I cannot. This is my view but I guess others share it too, because they weren’t involved and they can’t support a leader imposed on them by some section”.
