Nkhata Bay, October 22: United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) through the Spotlight Initiative has donated 12 motorcycles to Nkhata Bay District Council to ease mobility challenges which service providers face in reaching out to communities in an effort to fight Gender Based Violence (GBV).
Speaking Friday after handing over the motorcycles, UNFPA GBV Officer, Goldfrey Chavula said the organisation was prompted to make the donation to ensure smooth implementation of GBV community awareness initiatives in the district.
Chavula said that transport was identified as a major setback in fighting GBV hence providing child protection workers (CPWs) with the motorcycle for prompt response to GBV cases.
Chairperson for Nkhata Bay District Council, Patrick Manda commended UNFPA for the donation and pledged that the council will ensure that the motorcycles are well taken care of and used for the intended purpose.
Ten of the motorcycles are meant for CPWs, while each of the two motorcycles are allocated to Nkhata Bay Magistrate Court and Nkhata Bay District Hospital respectively.
