Malawi, South Korea For Strong Bilateral Relationship

The South Korean Prime Minister Dr Han Duck-Soo has committed to continue supporting the Malawi government towards the development and enhancement of the bilateral relations between the two countries.

Duck-Soo made the remarks when he had an interface with Malawi’s President Dr Lazarus Chakwera in London on the sidelines of the May 6 coronation of King Charles and Queen Camilla the Queen Consort of the United Kingdom.

The meeting was aimed at discussing bilateral issues aimed at strengthening the cordial relationship and cooperation between the two nations as well as a discussion around the world expo 2030.

Speaking to MBC after the meeting Dr Chakwera said there is a need to enhance the relationship which dates way back and also for Malawi to learn some developmental lessons from South Korea.

“We have talked about Korea’s help concerning Malawi’s needs presently and future needs. Our relationship dates back to 1965 and we want to enhance that relationship,” said Dr Chakwera.

For his part, the Prime Minister for South Korea said the relationship with the Malawi government is valuable and would want to keep the status like that for further engagements.

“Malawi and Korea can work together not only in bilateral relations but also in the international arena. I am optimistic for the future,” said Duck-Soo.

The diplomatic relations between Malawi and South Korea date back to 1965 and there are several South Korean nationals working and living in Malawi.
