Director in the Department of Climate Change and Meteorological Services, (DCCMS) Lucy Mtilatila, told Zodiak Online this afternoon, “the Cyclone is still roaming around the Indian Ocean, it has intensified into a severe Cyclone.
She added, “it is moving slowly and in the next 24 hours it should be getting into the Mozambique channel it will likely weaken a bit before it gets into Mozambique border by Sunday,” explained.
Mtilatila says heavy rains are anticipated especially in the southern parts of Malawi adding that the low pressure system over southern Malawi triggers congo air mass thus we may have some rains across the country.
The National Water Resources Authority (NWRA) earlier warned people in the Shire Valley to brace for more flooding citing high water levels in the Lake and also in the Shire river.
