Political Analyst Burnett Munthali, says Malawi is facing an economic storm of unprecedented proportions testing the resilience, endurance and determination observing that the cost of living, the devaluation of the Kwacha, fuel shortages have placed immense pressure on households.
Munthali says the economic challenges are undeniably severe, they are compound by something even more troubling, a leadership crisis that has left Malawians feeling abandoned and for the average Malawians, life has become an unrelenting battle for survival.
He says prices of essential commodities such as maize flour, cooking oil, bread, and sugar have soared beyond the reach of many forcing families to make impossible choices, the private sector is suffocating under the weight of high operational costs with businesses closing their doors throwing thousands into unemployment.
Speaking on Malawi’s economic crisis, Munthali says in the midst of this turmoil, Malawians are looking to their leaders for solutions, they see a government that appears out of touch with the struggles of ordinary citizens, they see policy makers who fail to take decisive action against corruption, inefficiency and management.
Munthali says leadership is not about rhetoric-it is about responsibility, making bold decisions, implementing effective policies and putting the interest of the people above personal gain saying a leader does not shy away from difficult choices and does not watch from sidelines citizens suffering.
He says time has come for Malawians to reclaim their country from weak leadership and misguided policies, Malawians need leaders who listens, leaders who act and leaders who put the nation first saying Malawians cannot afford another cycle of empty promises and failed reforms.
The Analyst has advised Malawians to demand transparency in government expenditures, hold their leaders accountable for their economic decisions and using their collective voice to push for change saying the 16th September, 2025 elections should not be about party loyalty but about competence and vision.
He says Malawi needs a leadership that is not only capable but also willing to make sacrifices for the betterment of all observing that this is a call to action, the nation is standing on a crossroads observing that a future is dominated by sufferings.
“We cannot wait for salvation from those who have continuously failed us, we must be the change, let’s rise together and demand a better Malawi that truly serves its people,” says Munthali.
