The rescheduled Northern Region Football Association (NRFA) Elective Annual General Meeting has elected Masiya Nyasulu as the new chairperson of the regional soccer governing body.
Nyasulu, the former NRFA secretary general, secured 16 votes, while his rival, Chauka Mwasinga, got none.
The election registered a minimal controversy, with some delegates from Karonga, Rumphi, and Nkhata-Bay districts boycotting the event over disagreements regarding the candidacy of delegates from Chitipa District.
Despite this, the presiding officer, Felistus Dossi, declared the meeting open and assured that all concerns would be recorded and filed as part of the election concerns.

“We have recorded that the stay away as just a mere abscondment from the electoral process,” said Dossi.
In a surprising turn of events, three candidates – Chauka Mwasinga, Desire Bellings Mwenekiyombe, and Ralph Sasilirika – walked away from the electoral process, adding to the numbers of those who absconded.
Epimack Lwaja was elected as the new vice chairperson, beating Ralph Sasilirika by 15 votes to nil. Lupakisho Simwera was elected as the new secretary general, securing 16 votes against Bellings Desire Mwenekiyombe, who received none.
In his keynote address, Nyasulu thanked stakeholders in soccer development for their support and urged them to work together to reduce the gap affecting the implementation of the Football Association of Malawi’s transformative football agenda.
