LILONGWE, Malawi – Organisers of this year’s highly anticipated Mulhako wa Alhomwe Cultural Festival have announced that they require K300 million to successfully host the annual event, which is expected to attract thousands of people from across Malawi and beyond.

Chairperson of the 2026 Mulhako wa Alhomwe Organising Committee, Dr. Grant Chikweza, disclosed the fundraising target during a press briefing held in Lilongwe on Tuesday.

Dr. Chikweza said the committee has organised a Fundraising Dinner and Dance scheduled for July 4, 2026, in Lilongwe as one of the key initiatives aimed at mobilising resources for the prestigious cultural gathering.DPP To Elect Presidential Candidate At A Convention

According to Dr. Chikweza, the fundraising event will showcase the rich heritage of the Lomwe people through traditional dances, cultural exhibitions, and authentic Lomwe cuisine and beverages, including popular delicacies such as gondolosi and makaka.

“The response from the public has been encouraging. We started selling tickets today and have already sold 50 out of the 200 available tickets. We have Standard tickets at K250,000, Gold tickets at K350,000, Platinum tickets at K2.5 million, while a Corporate Table is going for K10 million,” said Dr. Chikweza.

He further revealed that organisers are considering increasing the number of tickets due to growing demand from individuals, businesses, and cultural enthusiasts eager to support the event.

Dr. Chikweza emphasized that proceeds from the fundraising initiative will not only support preparations for the Mulhako wa Alhomwe Festival but will also contribute towards various charitable and community development activities.

Celebrating Lomwe Heritage

This year’s celebrations are scheduled to take place on October 18, 2026, at Chonde in Mulanje District, the traditional home of the Lomwe people.

Expectations High for 2026 Festival

With preparations now underway, organisers are optimistic that this year’s event will surpass previous editions in attendance and impact.

The festival is expected to attract traditional leaders, government officials, business executives, cultural groups, and visitors from within and outside Malawi.
