Power Bank Innovator Calls For Local Solutions

By Suleman Chitera Sep28,2022

Malawians pursuing studies outside the country have been called upon to offer solutions to some of the challenges facing the country.

Speaking to MBC, Sam Silumbu, an innovator who studied engineering in China and upon his return opened a technology company that is locally producing power banks, says Malawi will be able to attain its aspirations as outlined in Malawi 2063 if the technology sector is fully supported.

“While studying in China, I was exposed to several technologies and I was propelled to bring such technologies back home, one of them being the making of power banks. As of now, I have managed to employ five workers and we intend to employ up to 30 people,” said Silumbu.

Meanwhile, Information and Communication Technology expert at the Malawi University of Business and Applied Sciences (MUBAS) Joseph Masiye has applauded Silumbu with a call to support such innovations.

The power banks that Silumbu is making have a power capacity of 10,000 milliamps and they can charge three smartphones at once.
