Football Association of Malawi (FAM) President Fleetwood Haiya says Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre will be demolished to pave the way for the construction of a new stadium.
Haiya confirmed that President Peter Mutharika has approved the decision, despite the facility previously being designated as a monumental site.
He said FAM will work closely with the government to ensure the construction of a new stadium to improve Malawi’s football infrastructure.
Meanwhile, Haiya said FAM plans to expand Mpira Stadium’s capacity and upgrade it to meet international standards, providing a better venue for hosting major football matches.
The proposed developments are expected to strengthen Malawi’s capacity to host football matches and improve facilities for players and supporters.
