Chizuma Hit The Wall As Justice Nyirenda Rejects ACB Application To Recuse Himself From Kainja Case

The High Court in Lilongwe has dismissed with costs an application by the Anti Corruption Bureau for Judge Kenyata Nyirenda to recuse himself from a case where former Inspector General of Police, George Kainja, is challenging his arrest in relation to the Zuneth Sattar corruption case.

Making his ruling Judge Kenyata Nyirenda said the reasons filed by ACB did not satisfy the court.

Imran Saidi, ACB lawyer, said they wanted the court to remove Judge Kenyata Nyirenda from the case saying he is a ‘conflicted person” to handle the case with credibility.

Kainja’s lawyer, Gift Nankhuni, however, noted that in the current circumstance the Judge will continue to hear the case on a date to be advised.
