President Lazarus Chakwera says Malawi “will offer unrelenting support to Japan’s efforts on Peace and Security as the country serves as non-permanent member at the United Nations Security Council for the next couple of years.”
He spoke this at the Kamuzu Palace in Lilongwe on Tuesday after the new Japanese Ambassador to Malawi, Yoichi OYA presented his copies of Letters of Credence as he commences his tenure of duty.
Chakwera said the two countries share an advantageous 50 years of development cooperation and 15 years of diplomatic ties.
“Based on the foregoing, our discussions with His Excellency OYA were mainly guided by mutual commitment to consolidate these ties in key areas such as Education, Energy, Agriculture, Trade and Health among others,” said Chakwera.
Meanwhile, OYA pledges to continue cultivating bilateral relations and opening new opportunities for the country in various social and economic capacities. He replaces Ambassador Satoshi Iwakiri.
