The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Regional Governor for the Eastern Region, Daud Chikwanje, on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, held a series of stopover meetings in Mangochi North and Lutende. These gatherings are part of the party’s continued efforts to strengthen grassroots mobilization ahead of the 2025 general elections.

During the meetings, the DPP welcomed 30 defectors from the United Democratic Front (UDF), including their District Governor, alongside 10 members of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). These defections underscore growing confidence in the DPP’s leadership and vision for the nation.

Expressing his delight, Chikwanje commended the new members for their decision to join the DPP.

“I am delighted that people are realizing the DPP is the only party with a clear vision to restore Malawi’s stability and development under the capable leadership of Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika,” he remarked.

The governor extended his outreach to additional areas, including Namarika, Lungwena, Malindi, and Chemakumba, conducting similar engagements to bolster the DPP’s influence. These meetings focused on consolidating grassroots support and addressing the concerns of local communities.

With voter registration closing today, December 11, 2024, as announced by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC), Chikwanje emphasized the importance of voter registration in securing a DPP victory in the upcoming elections. He urged all eligible Malawians to register before the deadline, emphasizing that this was a critical step in ensuring their voices are heard at the ballot box.

Chikwanje reiterated the party’s unwavering commitment to reinstating Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika (APM) as President. He highlighted Mutharika’s strong leadership and past accomplishments as pivotal in addressing Malawi’s challenges and paving the way for future prosperity.

The meetings in Mangochi North and Lutende, alongside similar efforts in other areas, demonstrate the DPP’s determination to reclaim power. As the 2025 elections approach, the party’s mobilization efforts are gaining significant traction, setting the stage for a highly competitive electoral race.
