President Lazarus Chakwera has advised newly appointed Minister of Labour Engineer Vitumbiko Mumba to work diligently and hit the ground running.
He was speaking on Friday in Mzuzu when Mumba was being sworn in and taking oath of allegiance.
Chakwera said appointment to cabinet is a call to service, reminding Mumba that every Malawian was looking up to him to deliver.
“There will be some people who will tell you that your appointment is well deserved but do not take that to your heart. There are also some who will whisper behind your back that your appointment is not well deserved. Do not take that to your heart.
“The most important thing is for you to understand that your appointment to cabinet is a call to service,” he said.
In an interview, Mumba said he was humbled by his appointment to cabinet.
He said he will need God’s guidance in the position as well as support from fellow cabinet ministers and all Malawians.
President Chakwera appointed Engineer Mumba on Wednesday following the resignation of Agnes NyaLonje.
