A disturbing video clip currently circulating on social media has captured a shocking incident involving a group of Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) members.
According to the footage, a minibus transporting DPP supporters was shot at in Mponela as it was returning from Ntchisi.
The DPP members had just attended a political rally addressed by Alfred Gangata, the party’s Vice President for the Central Region.
Tragically, the minibus was set ablaze in the midst of the chaos, leaving behind a scene of destruction and fear.
Several DPP members sustained serious injuries during the violent confrontation.
Norman Chisale, a prominent figure in the DPP and former bodyguard to ex-President Peter Mutharika, quickly reported the attack to the Malawi Police Service.
However, Chisale expressed frustration, stating that the police have not taken any meaningful action in response to the attack.
In an effort to defend his fellow party members, Chisale reportedly returned fire during the incident.
He said his action was necessary to protect the DPP members who were under threat.
Chisale also issued a stern warning to the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) youth who were allegedly involved in the attack.
He condemned their actions, labeling them as extremely harmful and dangerous to Malawi’s democratic process.
In his closing remarks, Chisale warned that the MCP has begun a political battle that it may not be able to end.
The incident has sparked widespread concern among citizens and political observers, raising questions about political tolerance, security, and the state of democracy in Malawi.
As tensions rise ahead of future political events, many are calling for authorities to ensure the safety of all Malawians, regardless of political affiliation.
The nation watches anxiously as it waits for a formal response from both the MCP leadership and law enforcement agencies.
If this trend of political violence continues, it threatens to undermine the fragile peace that Malawians have fought so hard to preserve.
