Kamlepo Kalua says educated nation is national development

By Vincent Gunde

Veteran freedom fighter and activist Hon. Kamlepo Kalua, says education nation is national development observing that for two parliamentary sittings he has been proposing for free secondary school education but no one in Parliament showed interest to support him.

Kalua said in March, 2024 he brought the motion of free secondary school education but he received no support from either government MPs or opposition MPs and in March, 2025 he brought the same motion on the table, people till had no interest of supporting him.

He said Speaker of Parliament Catherine Gotani-Hara questioned him as to why he is wasting his time bringing a proposal to Parliament with no support from fellow members assuring him that government has no money to roll out free secondary school education in the country.

Speaking through an audio clip, Kalua said he has learnt with a big shock and dismay hearing from the MCP mouth that they are introducing free secondary school education from the 1st Term of the 2025-2026 academic session.

Kalua has advised Malawians that the MCP should not deceive them that they will introduce free secondary school education claiming that the proposal came from him and it was rejected by themselves on the argument that Government has no money.

He said according to his proposal, he observed that many parents and guardians are failing to pay brilliant boys and girls secondary school fees because from the background, these students are going for free primary school education.

The freedom fighter said it is sad that after rejecting his proposal for 2 years, with only two months to go before the 16th September, 2025 elections, the MCP has found a loophole to deceive Malawians that they are introducing free secondary school education.

He has appealed to Malawians never and ever to listen to the MCP or ask them where have they been with the free secondary school education only to wake up from the bed that in October, 2025 they will start offering free secondary school education.

“They refused my proposal, shame to the MCP and shame on those who are advocating for my proposal as a campaign instrument to woo votes from the electorate,” said Kalua.

He has advised people of the central region not to take fellow people from the North and South as their enemies because of failed politicians from the region saying they are all Malawians and will remain to be called Malawians.

The Freedom fighter said the MCP had no love for Ngwazi Dr. Hastings Kamuzu Banda claiming that they failed to build a Mausoleum for Kamuzu but Professor Bingu wa Mutharika built one for him at the City Centre in Lilongwe.

He claimed that in the MCP there were people that vowed to die with Kamuzu Banda and after his death, they did nothing advising all that people in the southern region loves all Malawians as equal claiming that all the road networks in the central region were initiated and built by Presidents from the southern region.
