Lilongwe, Malawi,-Malawi’s Honorary Consul to Israel, Nir Gess, has been nominated for the Honorary Consul of the Year 2025 in Israel Award by the Ambassadors’ Club of Israel.
In a letter dated July 22, 2025, the President of the Ambassadors’ Club of Israel, Ambassador Yitzhak Eldan, said the recognition is in honor of Gess’s unique contribution to strengthening Malawi-Israel bilateral relations as well as his consistent support to the Club, whose motto is “Connecting diplomats to Israel.”
The letter, which was also copied to Malawi’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nancy Tembo, further confirmed that the official award ceremony will take place in October 2025, with the venue and exact date to be announced soon.
“Please accept, dear Honorary Consul of Malawi, our congratulations for your nomination,” the letter reads in part.
Gess Reacts to the Nomination
Reacting to the news on Saturday, Gess described the nomination as both humbling and inspiring.
“I feel incredibly honored and grateful for the nomination as an Honorary Consul. It is a true pleasure to be recognized as a proud Malawian representative,” he said.
Since his appointment in 2021, Gess has been at the forefront of promoting business opportunities in Malawi, with a special focus on agriculture, labor exports to Israel, and tourism exchange between the two countries.
“I take pride in initiating labor exports to Israel and establishing ongoing tourism from Israel to Malawi. There is much more to come,” he added.
Boost for Malawi-Israel Relations
Gess believes the nomination goes beyond personal recognition, saying it elevates Malawi’s visibility in the diplomatic community in Israel.
“I am confident it will lead to stronger business ties between our countries. God bless Malawi and God bless Israel,” he concluded.
The Ambassadors’ Club of Israel annually honors diplomats and honorary consuls who have made outstanding contributions in fostering international partnerships. If Gess wins, this will mark a significant milestone in Malawi’s diplomatic relations with Israel.
