The People’s Development Party (PDP) has officially accepted defeat in Malawi’s 2025 General Elections, reaffirming its commitment to continue serving Malawians despite not securing the presidency.
In a statement issued by PDP President Kondwani Nankhumwa, the party acknowledged both the progress and setbacks experienced during the elections. Nankhumwa highlighted that preliminary results reflect Malawians’ recognition of the party’s vision and contributions, even though the PDP fell short of victory.
Nankhumwa: PDP’s Message Remains Strong
Nankhumwa emphasized that the PDP’s participation in the elections strengthened its political visibility and reinforced its message of development and reform.
“We are not defined by one election cycle. We are defined by our mission,” said Nankhumwa, stressing that the party will continue working towards shaping Malawi’s future.
Concerns Over Electoral Irregularities
While accepting the results, the PDP leader raised concerns over irregularities involving some of the party’s candidates. He said the issues would be formally presented to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) for review.

The Malawi Electoral Commission is yet to release the official results of the 2025 elections. However, the PDP has pledged to respect the democratic process while continuing to position itself as a key voice in the country’s political landscape.
