HTD Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to the growth of Malawian football by sponsoring the Football Legends Association (FLA) with K2 million towards the hosting of an international friendly match against Zambia. The much-anticipated encounter is set for December 28 at the iconic Bingu National Stadium in Lilongwe.
Speaking during a press briefing in Blantyre, HTD Limited General Manager Ziyaad Sidik said the company was proud to stand with the football legends in recognition of their immense contribution to the development of the game in Malawi.
“As HTD Limited, we feel duty-bound to support the legends whose efforts continue to inspire young football talents and shape the future of football in Malawi. When the Football Legends Association approached us,
we did not hesitate because this cause aligns perfectly with our values,” said Sidik.
The sponsorship comes at a crucial time as the Malawi legends intensify preparations for the clash against their Zambian counterparts. The fixture carries added significance following recent results between the two sides, with Malawi losing 2–1 away in Zambia in 2023 before battling to a goalless draw at home last year.
Flames legend Ernest Mtawali hailed HTD Limited’s support, describing it as a major morale booster for the team.
“This support has come at the right time as we fine-tune our preparations for this crucial match.

We narrowly lost in Zambia and then drew at home. With this kind of backing, we are confident and motivated to finally break the jinx against Zambia,” said Mtawali.
Beyond the match itself, the sponsorship highlights the important role the private sector continues to play in promoting sports development and preserving football heritage. By supporting the legends, HTD Limited is not only helping to stage an exciting international fixture but also contributing to mentorship, inspiration, and national pride.
As excitement builds towards December 28, football fans can look forward to an entertaining showdown that celebrates the past heroes of the game while inspiring the next generation—made possible through strategic partnerships and shared commitment to Malawi’s football future.
