Nico Group has today launched a maize distribution initiative to support families affected by hunger in Kapata Village, Traditional Authority Nyumwanyumwa, Machinga.
The exercise is being implemented in partnership with World Vision Malawi and the Department of Disaster Management Affairs targeting households hardest hit by poor rains and low crop yields.
Nico Life Insurance chief operating officer Chimwemwe Kanyenda said the company responded following a government call for support.
“We felt it was necessary to support families affected by hunger,” Kanyenda said.
World Vision Malawi director of operations Charles Chimombo described the intervention as timely and lifesaving, particularly for children.
One of the beneficiaries, Shyreen Ntungama, expressed gratitude to Nico for the support.
“Now we will have energy to cultivate our gardens because we cannot work while hungry,” she said.
The initiative aims to bring relief to families struggling to make ends meet due to the adverse effects of poor weather conditions.
