New York — Iran has issued a stern warning to the United States, cautioning that any military aggression against the Islamic Republic would trigger “uncontrollable consequences,” as tensions between the two countries remain high.

Addressing an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council on Wednesday, Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, said Washington would bear full responsibility for the fallout of any attack on Iran.

“Iran informs the council that it faces a clear American threat of using force against it,” Iravani told members of the Security Council. “We call for an end to all threats and illegal actions that destabilise Iran.”

The Iranian envoy emphasized that Tehran would respond decisively if attacked, insisting its actions would be grounded in international law. “If any attack occurs, Iran will, under international law, take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, territory, and people,” he said.

Iravani’s remarks came amid heightened rhetoric and military posturing in the region, raising fears of a broader escalation involving major global powers.

Earlier on the same day, Iran’s parliamentary speaker, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, echoed the warning in an interview with CNN, suggesting that any conflict initiated by the United States could spiral beyond Washington’s control.

“Maybe Mr Trump can start a war, but he doesn’t have control over how it ends,” Ghalibaf said, referring to former US President Donald Trump, who remains a central figure in American politics.

Despite the tough language, Iranian officials signaled that diplomacy has not been ruled out entirely. Ghalibaf said Tehran remains open to negotiations with the United States, but only under strict conditions.

“Iran is ready to negotiate with the US — but only if talks are genuine,” he said, underscoring Tehran’s long-standing position that dialogue must be based on mutual respect and concrete commitments.

The statements reflect Iran’s dual-track approach of deterrence and conditional diplomacy, as international observers warn that any direct confrontation between Tehran and Washington could have far-reaching regional and global implications.
