The Namaa Relief and Development Organisation has underscored its commitment to promoting Islamic teachings and providing food assistance to Muslim communities as part of efforts to eradicate hunger in the country.

Speaking during an award ceremony for Muslim youth in Lilongwe, the organisation’s Managing Director, Dr Abdullah Helal, said Namaa Relief’s mission is to empower local communities and improve their quality of life through development projects in food security, education, health, economic development, and religious support.

Helal said the organisation prioritises Islamic teachings such as the Quran, Hadith and Arabic to help Muslim communities understand and memorise the Holy Quran and become responsible citizens.

“The organisation aims to double the number of beneficiaries of its health, education, religious, and development projects to reach 25,000 people by 2029,” explained Helal.

“Organisation’s 2024–2029 strategic plan includes establishing integrated infrastructure such as 10 health clinics, five public schools, and 100 Sharia schools by 2029,” he added.

In her remarks, Member of Parliament for Lilongwe City Kamphuno Constituency, Khadija Leah Chunga, urged Muslim youth in the country to work hard in both conventional school and madrassah, saying education is key to national development.

Meanwhile, one of the best students from Area 24 Albayaan Madrassah, Hajie Elias, thanked the organisation for organising the Quran competition, saying it has helped Muslim youth to better understand and memorise the Holy Quran.

Elias received a certificate and a cash prize of K150,000.

The event was attended by Sheikh Ahmad Chienda and Police Officer Sheikh Mustafa Chibwana, among other dignitaries.
